More than 415 million people worldwide suffer from diabetes mellitus (2015 figures), a chronic disease that leads to high blood sugar levels. This number continues to grow largely due to genetic predisposition on the one hand and a high-calorie, low-activity lifestyle on the other. Without early detection and treatment of diabetes, serious medical complications can occur.
In this simulation, students diagnose diabetes in three patients. For this purpose, the urine glucose test and Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) are used.
The kit contains: samples, antigens and antibodies, various solutions and reagents, pipettes and microtest tubes.
Also required: incubator at 37 degrees Celsius, water bath, micropipette, glassware and distilled or demineralised water.
